Leafing Out Dichroic Glass Black Bear Pendant

All fused glass pieces are crafted in Gatlinburg, Tennessee by artist Kimberly Bylo. This is a tack fused piece of glass, meaning all the pieces of glass used to make this piece were melting into a textural multi-colored piece of glass. This type of piece is heated at about 1425 degrees in a kiln. Kimberly uses glass called dichroic glass in a lot of her jewelry. Originally designed by NASA, the dichroic glass is coated with metal oxides and has a beautiful, shimmering iridescent quality. Subtle variations of color can reflect from the glass when light hits it at different angles. This is one of the beautiful and intrinsic properties of this glass. Each piece is individually handcrafted and unique. This black bear pendant was inspired by the beautiful wildlife in the Great Smoky Mountains.
