Totality, Etched Fused Glass Solar Eclipse Pendant

All fused glass pieces are created in Gatlinburg, Tennessee by artist Kimberly Bylo. Kimberly uses glass called dichroic glass in a lot of her jewelry. Originally designed by NASA, the dichroic glass is coated with metal oxides and has a beautiful, shimmering iridescent quality. Subtle variations of color can reflect from the glass when light hits it at different angles. This is one of the beautiful and intrinsic properties of this glass. This symbolic design was etched into the glass using an acid on dichroic glass. Once the acid is painted on the glass it works to remove the colorful dichroic coating, and when the acid is removed the artist is left with a black silhouette drawing. Each piece is individually handcrafted and unique.
